Vineyard Productions

Our story

It began with a single barrel.

In 2015, Liam Steevenson MW made his first barrel of wine in the Roussillon. A decade later, Vineyard Productions creates wines and wine brands across the world — from vineyard to market.

Where it began.

In 2015, founder Liam Steevenson MW made his first barrel of wine in the Roussillon. The wine became Immortelle, named after the small yellow flower growing among the region’s old vines.

From the Agly Valley, Immortelle grew into a small range: a Côtes du Roussillon red, Petite Immortelle and a Rivesaltes Grenat.

Immortelle brought together a belief in exceptional winemaking with the ambition to create something distinctive in the marketplace. It was more than the creation of a wine. It demonstrated the opportunity to bring vineyard knowledge, winemaking expertise, creative brand development and commercial understanding together within a single project.

Creating a successful wine requires an understanding of every element — from the vineyard to the people who ultimately enjoy it.

The winemaking

From one wine to an international business.

What began as a personal winemaking project grew into a wider approach: working with talented growers, winemakers and creative partners to build wines with distinctive character and compelling identities.

Over the decade that followed, that approach travelled — to Marlborough, Provence and Essex, and into wines created for retailers, hospitality groups and private clients.

Our own brands sit alongside a wider portfolio and wines created for partners. See all our brands and wines.

Liam grew up with winemakers sitting round the kitchen table. The son of a wine merchant, he spent childhood holidays in vineyards and cellars, tasting rooms and restaurants — and at eighteen hitch-hiked alone through the wine regions of France.

He became a wine merchant as soon as he left university and spent his twenties in the vineyards of Europe, tasting every wine that money or opportunity would allow. His career went on to include Senior Wine Buyer at Waitrose and wine buyer for Silverjet, sourcing wines from all over the world. He qualified as a Master of Wine — at the time, the youngest person to do so.

Over more than 25 years he has bought, sourced and developed wines across the world’s major wine regions, worked hands-on in vineyard development and winemaking, and founded international wine businesses and brands.

Why that makes us different

Most winemakers have never sat on the buyer’s side of the table. Most brand agencies have never made a wine. Liam has done both. He knows what consumers want to drink, how a wine should be priced, what retailers, restaurants and distributors need — and how to make the wine itself. Every Vineyard Productions project is shaped by that combination.

Our philosophy.

A winemaker plunging his arm into a fermenting vat

We are not flying winemakers.

There is no uniformity of style, and no house recipe imposed from region to region. Every story begins at its source, and every winemaking decision is made locally — with people who grew up in a place and understand it.

Winemaking is inherently conservative: built on generations of repetition, with one harvest a year. We believe it needs more imagination than that — and that great wine projects demand both rigorous tasting and creative confidence.

  1. Everything begins with place

A site that is unique, with a character of its own and a story to tell. Sun falling on the hills, gnarled ancient vines, old stone village walls.

  2. Start small, dream a little

In corners of cellars: a few barrels, one or two tanks. Starting small lets us try things a bigger producer might not.

  3. Built on relationships

We work with people who grew up in a place and understand it. Our winemaking friends are part of every project, their stories told, their home respected.

  4. Design is part of the conversation

Our designers are involved in conversations about vines, winemaking, people and taste — long before pencil goes to paper.

  5. Tell the story well

There is no point in having a great story unless you know how to tell it. Our winemaking must be excellent, and our storytelling world class.

  6. Share the risk

We share the burden of risk with growers, so that our supply chain works for everyone involved and success is enjoyed all the way down.
