Céu na Terra
An artisan expression of Alvarinho, produced from outstanding vineyards in the heart of the Monção-Melgaço sub-region of Vinho Verde. This unique terroir allows the aromatic and stone fruit qualities of the Alvarinho grape to fully express themselves.
Blended by Master of Wine Liam Steevenson and local winemaker Joana Santiago, Céu na Terra is a truly individual wine, elegant, fresh and citrus-led, but with a wonderful rich textural quality that evolves in the bottle with time and in the glass when open.
Céu na Terra translates as ‘Heaven on Earth’, reflecting not just the wine but the outstanding beauty of the region. In a place where the Atlantic hits the coast, where some of the worlds finest seafood is found, where rainfall keeps the countryside dramatically green, this wine has a true sense of place. Céu na Terra is a reflection of nature, crafted by a passionate team of talented winemakers.
Céu na Terra
The vines for Céu na Terra are grown on clay soils between 70 and 100 meters altitude on the alluvial terraces of the Monção municipality, benefitting from a unique microclimate . This sub-region lies between the river and the mountain and as such has little exposure to the influence of the sea leading to hot days and cold nights. This dinural temperature range allows for the development of aromas and flavours, whilst retaining freshness.
Manual harvest into 20kg boxes, which took place in early September. On arrival to the winery, the grapes were de-stemmed before undergoing light pressing. Skin contact prior to a temperature controlled fermentation which lasted a month. The wine was then aged for 7 months in stainless steel on the fine lees until bottling with periodic battonage.
Elegant and complex with notes of white fruit, citrus and orange blossom on the nose. The palate is rich, full-bodied, persistent with the characteristic freshness and minerality found in Alvarinho.
